Sometimes you want chocolate and sometimes you don’t. This chai recipe is for the times chocolate won’t cut it. There are two versions- the kid friendly and the caffeinated adult version (I figured your kids are probably bouncing around the house enough without black tea added to the mix).
For this particular recipe I took all the parts of chai I love and left out the parts that I felt were too “spicy” for little ones. The result is a delicious treat that anyone can enjoy. It is on the sweeter side so if it’s too much for your liking you can decrease the maple syrup. I also chose an earl grey tea because I just can’t get enough of it but a black tea works well with this recipe too. Enjoy with a dollop of whipped cream if your little heart desires (click here for my coconut milk whipped cream recipe).
2 cups Almond Milk (see recipe here)
1/4 cup Maple Syrup
1/8 tsp Cloves Seasoning
1/8 tsp Ginger Seasoning
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Vanilla
Heat almond milk, vanilla and maple syrup on medium. Add all the spices and whisk until incorporated. For the adult version steep 1 bag of Earl Grey or Breakfast Tea for 3-5 minutes after adding the spices. Continue to heat until Chai reaches the desired temperature. Do not bring to a boil. Serve warm.
Makes 2-3 cups.
